People say, "God will help those who help themselves."
The Bible teaches, "God will help those who trust in Him."
If such is the case, then why is it that we see people so successful in doing things that are not according to God's will? Is it because they trust God will help them go against His will and hence, they emerge victorious?
Sometimes we think that God is not on our side. Sometimes we feel that God has abandoned us. Sometimes, when bad things happen to us or to those around us, we question God. We say, if God is so merciful and loving, why does He allow these things to happen?
People believe that they are in control of their own destiny.
The Bible teaches, "God is always in control no matter what."
When natural disasters come and claim many lives, or destroy spares the living but destroys their ricebowl, their roof over their heads, it causes suffering. In such cases, people again begin to question God, asking why does He let this happen, if indeed He is loving and kind?
These are the reasons by people believe that there is no God. But we cannot say like that.
In PC1322 lecture we learn that the universe existed from the Big Bang. This is not a huge explosion at some point in time, but rather a random sprouting of a highly dense and hot matter which continued to expand until we have what we see today. We also learn that the universe will continue to expand, and possibly soon contract, depending on initial conditions.
Recently, my friend, who was part of the Astronomy Club in my uni, and I had a discussion about this while studying for the test next Monday, and he mentioned that the Big Bang Theory is, for one, just a theory to explain why things are they way they are. Another thing he said was that the Big Bang is generally accepted by scientists because they think it sounds cool and it properly explains the origin of our universe.
The Big Bang cannot explain everything. Combined with the Copernican principle, we have two statements: The universe has no center, and the big bang is happening even today.
These are things I do not agree with. If the Big Bang really did happen, then the universe has a center.
First we assume that the first matter appeared at only 1 place and began expanding from there. Then its expansion must be uniform. If it is not uniform, then the level of energy is not the same at every part of the matter. This cannot be, since the first matter began at a point, which has only 1 part. So it must be uniform. And if it was uniform, then its expansion created a ball, which has a center!
But then we think: What if the universe did not begin to exist at one point? What if several matter sprouted at finitely many different points and began expanding? But we rule out this case, because the probability of one matter appearing at one point is so much greater than the probability that more than one matter appearing at different places, AT THE SAME TIME!!
But this is difficult, because 1 matter does not have enough energy to expand itself!! And by the Law of Conservation of Energy, we cannot add anymore energy to it!!
But!! If we think back - if there was void at the beginning, before matter appeared, then how could it appear in the first place?!?! This violates the Conservation of Energy!!
At the end of the day, we always have to go back to the reasoning that someone must have created the matter!! If no one created matter, then matter cannot exist! So God exists.
But if God exists, then going back to the stuffs above, why is it that God allows bad things to happen to bad people?!?! Why is it that God allows suffering in this world?
This is why we have the Bible. The word of God will answer these questions for us. And we know that even though it seems that people are getting away with evil, they cannot escape the final judgment. Ecc 12:14 says God will bring every work into judgment, INCLUDING every secret thing, whether it is good or whether it is evil!
So we have it!! We know that God will finally deliver justice to all. This is why we do not seek revenge on our own, because God Himself has said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay." (Rom 12:19).
Finally we ask, is this a satisfactory answer? While most of us, including me, may answer no, it is the only answer we have. This is the hope we cling on to.
