Ever wondered how the name Caesar Salad came about? Here, let me enlighten you.
Remember Julius Caesar (JC)? Yeah, that old punk that went around fighting and building some empire only to die and let other people take over and is now in existence no more. Sad right?
Anyway, legend has it that one day, he came back from battle. He was dead tired. And hungry too. So he asked his chef servant guy (CSG) to make him some salad to eat.
(Unknown to many, JC was actually vegetarian. No one knew because he looked so buff and tuff, but in reality, all he ever had for his meals were vegetables and water)
Anyway, so his CSG was making some salad for him. While he was doing so, he accidentally cut his own finger, and a drop of his blood fell into the bowl of salad. He thought it was no big deal, since it was only a wee bit of blood. No one would realize. Right?
... WRONG!!! JC was furious when he saw a red spot on his lettuce. He summoned his CSG over and asked WHAT WAS THE MEANING OF THIS?!?!?!?!?!
His CSG got scared and lied and said that it wasn't anything, but his blood that fell from a wound he sustained during the battle. JC then thought, hmm. My blood eh? I wonder how it tastes like... then he ate. He absolutely loved it!! It was THEE most fantastic amazing wonderful thing he's tasted in millions of years! Of course, he's only been alive for about 30 years at that time, but still!
So the next time it was time to eat, JC would deliberately take a knife to have some of his blood fall on his meal. This time, after he ate, it was THEE most horrible atrocious terrible thing he ever tasted! He was confused! How could his blood which tasted so good yesterday be so bad today?
That night, he was trembling in bed. It was summer, but yet he was freezing! Soon after, he died of a frozen heart.
Ever since then, the salad he ate is now known as Caesar Salad, wherein whoever eats of it shall become cold. That's why people eat it in hot places like Malaysia - to cool themselves down. Moreover, if you look carefully, there is a distinct red drop somewhere in the salad. It symbolized the blood of the mighty Julius Caesar, who died by his own blood.
Remember this legend next time you ever see or taste, CAESAR SALAD!!!
