Upon knowing that I'm studying maths, most people start asking me...
"Why 1 plus 1 is 2 ar? How come like that? I want 1+1=3 cannot ar?"
Well, friends, life's most unanswered question shall now be answered!!! Brace yourselves!!!
Theorem: 1+1 = 2.
Proof:
By definition, 2 = 1+1.
Therefore, 1+1 = 2.
Q.E.D.
You see, basically it all comes down to definition... we can define whatever we want, however we want it.. if we define 5 = 1+1, then 1+1 = 5. That is the very core of mathematics - the definition.
But of course, because God made it a very very very very simple worldwide convention that 1+1=2, then why not just follow it? I mean, we're all Earthlings (are we?), we're all humans, we all have a brain, we all have been raised to think that 1+1=2, so just follow lah!!! Ask so much for what?!?!
And that's life's most unanswered question answered by a year 1 Math Undergraduate. Heh.
