It's the New Year... so, everyone's going through the motion of stating their New Year resolutions and all... some plan a new start for the new year, blablabla...
And apart from all those, others are trying to predict their future by looking at tarot cards, stars and constellations and consulting so-called "astrologers"...
Seriously, straight out, I think those things are a buncha nonsense... I mean, who relies on your star sign to predict who your soulmate should be? Or who would shuffle a deck of cards at random, pick 4 out and say that this is going to be their future? It's absolutely rubbish!!!
It's interesting to see people still consulting mediums and still believing that certain "special" people has "special" powers... EVEN in this Science and Technology age!!! Would you believe it?
Ok, some of you maybe thinking, "Oh stop it, you have no idea what you're talking about... these are really true and accurate, blablabla..." Yeah, well... let me just show you how true it can be...
Suppose you wanna use astrology to check and see if you and your partner are compatible... So, you put in your birthday, and he/she puts in his/her birthday, and poof! A number comes out...
Then you see the number, it gives 5%, you frown at your partner and say, "Sorry, we're not compatible. Let's break up."
Can you even imagine such a scenario??? How ridiculous can ya get?!
Alright, alright... I'll tell ya how this works... You see, such things only deal with NP completeness and it is not P complete. Because, if it was, there would be 2 consequences (Ok, so I know you don't want me to bug ya with all the maths terms, so I shall put it down in English! "P):
1. Our bank security PINs and internet passwords are not safe and everything we have in there will be exposed...
2. Someone would have won USD$1mil
3. We can use the same algorithm to predict a soulmate for every person, which is not possible, because since n(male)
is less than n(female), then some females will stay single, but that is not possible because the algorithm is able to predict a soulmate for every person! -> contradiction!!!
Probably you're wondering what does such a thing in astrology doing meddling with computer security and cash prizes... Well, I shall leave that for another time, but for now, I shall explain to you what it means by NP and P...
For example, an equation is given by
3x=15
Then, if you solve for x, then it is called P.
If you take a value of x, sub it in and check that is satisfies, then it is called NP.
In other words, P is actually solving the problem, while NP is checking the solution.
In checking for compatibility, we're actually putting 2 birthdays in, and the algorithm runs them over and comes up with a number. This is NP. And this, is absurd! Why??? Because...
If such an algorithm really exists, then we can invert it to actually use the inverse relation to predict the soulmate of one of them in the first place!!! But we know that this cannot be done! Why??? The answer is simple. Birthdays do NOT predict soulmates... It takes more than that, more variables than that... Simply because human problems are not easily solved with Mathematics...
You see, Mathematicians are always looking for the most elegant solution. Human life, if any, is hardly elegant! Mathematicians are always looking for the perfect solution. Human life, again, is hardly ever perfect, but full of flaws!!! Mathematicians are always looking for the most simple solution. Human life, once again, appears more complicated than it is simple...
Birthdays do not reveal character. They do not reveal personality. They do not reveal physical appearance. They do not reveal mortality rate. And if they don't, how can they predict compatibility???
So, let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Astrologers are conmen really to con people of their money by telling them rubbish, and people are actually believing them... And the math proves it.
Are you?
